I had my schooling at South Point School at Kolkata, once the largest school in the world, so far as roll strength is concerned. After passing Higher Secondary Examination I joined Medical College, Calcutta, the oldest medical school in India. I did my MD in internal medicine from the then University College of Medicine, Kolkata and was posted at National Medical College. Thereafter, I completed DM in Endocrinology and Metabolism from IPGME&R and SSKM Hospital, Kolkata in 2000.
After completing DM in endocrinology I was attached to Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan and Vivekananda Institute of Medical Sciences till January 2007 when I joined Medical Education Service of Govt of West Bengal and was posted at Nilratan Sircar Medical College, Kolkata as Assistant Professor,Department of Endocrinology.
At present I am attached to the department of endocrinology NRS Medical College as Professor & Head. I had headed the department on a previous occasion also from May 2011-Nov 2012.
I am also attached to Sri Aurobindo Seva Kendra and GD Diabetes Institute as a consultant endocrinologist and diabetologist.
I am intimately associated with the functioning of various professional bodies related to endocrinology and diabetology. After serving as the Honorary General Secretary of Diabetic Association of India,West Bengal for four years (2009-13),I am currently the Vice President of the same organization ; I am also the Assistant General Secretary of Endocrine Society of Bengal, and governing council member of RSSDI, West Bengal Chapter. I am also a member of the national editorial board of Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, the prestigious journal of Endocrine Society of India.
I have a South Kolkata based private practice. If treating patients of endocrinology is my hobby, teaching and training young doctors is my passion.
